'Killer dog' snatched pet from woman's arms
When three overworked and under-appreciated moms are pushed beyond their limits, they ditch their conventional responsibilities for a jolt of long overdue freedom, fun and comedic self-indulgence. Recently fired from her job and dumped by her rock musician boyfriend, Emily Middleton is determined to enjoy a previously planned nonrefundable trip to Ecuador.
Learning of her relationship status from social media, her mother, Linda, tells her to come home in order to move on, where she reunites with her agoraphobic brother, Jeffrey. Initially refusing, Linda agrees to go on the trip with her daughter.. Melissa McCarthy appears to be replaced by a younger and gutsier model. Meet Amy Schumer — former Comedy Central stand-up artist in her second film since her debut in Trainwreck.
By both writing and starring in that film, Schumer proved that there are still unexplored avenues in Rom-Coms that aim to make the audience laugh. Snatched follows suit as a buddy comedy by mixing up action sometimes violent with laugh-out-loud gags where Schumer is allowed free reign. It works, but only in the first half where most of the jokes are frontloaded. Schumer plays Emily, a self-centered individual suffering from blaring personal insecurities. But she is also optimistic, fun loving and adventurous. When she gets fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend on the same day, Emily phones-in her mother Linda Goldie Hawn as a companion on a trip to Ecuador.
In between mother- daughter bickering, Emily has a blast which ends up in disaster when both of them are 'taken' by South American baddies. And there's no Liam Neeson to save them. What follows is an eccentric escape plan that leads to some very high brow shenanigans. Last seen in The Banger Sisters 15 years ago, one of the most bizarre things about this film is veteran actress Goldie Hawn being called out of retirement. Trying to make any sort of connection with Hawn's previous characters leads to a dead end, which is why her role here is not only absurd, but also miscast.
But before you start to think that something is missing, The Heat and Ghostbusters both staring Melissa McCarthy screenwriter Katie Dippold tries to have us believe that the bond between a mother and daughter will overcome any and all perils. It's a nice touch but who are we kidding? By the time we get a feel of what's going on, the fun ends as soon as it starts.
On the other hand, Schumer is fun to watch but there's also the feeling that her characters both of them so far are mirror images of the roles Will Ferrell played years ago. Also a stand-up comedian, Ferrell got away with playing likable but unpleasant characters till all his characters were losers by default. While it may be too early to say if Schumer needs to look at her roles with prudence, the general feeling is assuring given her flawless comic timing.
On the plus side, laughs come from unexpected places thanks to guest roles from Wanda Sykes and Joan Cusack, a pair of weirdos who drop in out of nowhere and in the middle of nowhere. There is also a stupidly funny subplot involving Emily's super-nerd brother Jeffrey and a State Department official at loggerheads with each other. These tidbits keep the film from being a total disaster and in the end, If Snatched is about celebrating adventure and the open road, it gets there, albeit without a blazing trail.

I Feel Pretty Comedy Romance. Trainwreck Comedy Drama Romance. Rough Night Comedy Crime Thriller. The House I Initially refusing, Linda agrees to go on the trip with her daughter. In Ecuador, after they check into the upscale hotel, Emily meets a handsome man named James at the hotel bar, and they begin a relationship. After one night of drinking and dancing with James, Emily and her mother take a sightseeing day trip with him. During their ride, a white van rams James' Jeep and the masked men abduct Emily and Linda. James escapes, but Linda suspects he was in on the kidnapping plot from the start.
Emily awakens inside a cell and begins to panic, while Linda tries to calm herself by reading men's magazines. Morgado then has his nephew take both women away from the kidnappers' hideout to another location. They manage to escape from their captors' car and stow away into a passing truck. As it drives away, Emily kills the leader's nephew who is chasing them by pounding his head with a shovel. The truck's driver then stops his truck and leaves them both in the middle of the jungle.
They find a phone at a nearby bar, where they call the U. They meet a rugged-looking American named Roger Simmons. He agrees to help them find the consulate. After the three share a meal, Morgado and his men track them down.

Morgado is about to kill them both as revenge for his only nephew's death, but Linda distracts him while Emily retrieves a nearby spear gun with which to threaten him. As she retrieves it, she accidentally fires it, killing Morgado's only son. They manage to escape with Simmons onto a boat. Soon, however, they are forced off the boat when the captain detects another boat nearby that is looking for the two women. Meanwhile, Jeffrey, learning that his mother and sister have been kidnapped, calls Morgan at the State Department, saying he will join forces with the agents in order to find his mother and sister.
Morgan reluctantly agrees. In Colombia, Emily, Linda, and Simmons hike through the jungle until Simmons falls to his death from a cliff. Later, Emily passes out from the effects of a tapeworm infestation. After a local village doctor removes the tapeworm from her body, Morgado and his men track them down again. They spot a zip line and decide to use it to escape. Unfortunately, the zip line is good for only one person. Linda forces Emily to leave her behind and is recaptured. Emily safely arrives at the US Consulate.
Determined to find her mother, she seeks help from two feisty American women veterans, Ruth and Barb, whom Emily met at the resort in Ecuador. Ruth and Barb take her to James, who was conspiring with Morgado, to the apartment where he is being interrogated for the kidnappers' location. With the ladies' help, Emily rescues her mother at the kidnappers' apartment.
